White Widow was birthed into existence by a popular Dutch growing company, Green House Seeds in 1994. They crossed together two landrace strains, a Brazilian sativa with a South Indian indica strain. White Widow changed the indoor growing industry because it grows perfectly under HPS grow lamps, so it doesn’t depend on the light of the Sun. This removal of dependance on seasonal growing conditions also allowed for multiple high quality yields, all year round. White Widow won the Cannabis Cup the next year in 1995 because of its visual appeal and high content of THC. This matriarch was so inspiring, it progenerated a family of hybrids, referred to as the “White Family”. Many of these strains such as, White Shark, Black Widow, White Russian and, White Rhino, have all been defining in the weed industry and since have become just as recognizable due to their popularity. All the strains belonging to the “White Family” share a coating of dense trichome heavy resin that looks like icing or snow/frost. People using this strain have reported feeling a nice balance between the effects of the indica and sativa, giving the user euphoric energy with a relaxed demeanor.
This strain has always made me think of finding a White Widow glowing in the dark hanging in the center of its own web. The letters W W have also always come to mind immediately when I think of this strain. Many aspects of the design of the shirt were inspired by a fond memory I had with the strain.
