GRAPE APE
GRAPE APE
Unlike Blue Dream, the origins of Grape Ape are well documented. Grape Ape was brought into existence in 2004 by the founder of Apothecary Genetics, Bret Bogue. It is a strain that is a cumulative hybrid of Mendocino Purps, Skunk #1 and an Afghani landrace strain. The "Grape" in Grape Ape is a descriptor of the sensory experience of the plant. In addition to having dark purple leaves, Grape Ape has a sweet grape smell and flavor with a mellow earthy aftertaste. The "Ape" relates to the feeling that Grape Ape gives you. The indica-dominant genetic profile provides a strongly sedative experience that makes you feel bigger and heavier, like an ape. Users have reported feelings of powerful relaxation and cerebral euphoria. Like most purple strains, Grape Ape is good for winding down and getting to a space of mental and physical relaxation. It is a helpful relief for those who struggle to get a good night's sleep.
I have always associated Grape Ape with the image of a Purple Ape smoking a fat blunt. The symbolic importance and value of the color violet was an integral aspect of defining the Ape’s characteristics. I wanted the Grape Ape to exude an aura of confidence but also finesse, so I included subtle details of refinement to suggest aspects of financial success. I made his violet fur look soft, luxurious, and luminescent, to relate this color to its association with royalty and wealth. Violet is also a color which has a strong association to spirituality, so I included a triangle above his head, a space that is mostly devoid of smoke which is a symbolic representation for spiritual clarity of consciousness.
